Booster medication

Hi - just wondering if anyone has advice/experience with booster medication late afternoon /evening?
My son is 8.5 and takes 20mg of Biphentin in the morning.  It works well for him during the day, but by the evening he can get a bit wild - this is fine when at home - but my question is more when we have a late sports activity, play date or an event.  Any advice or thoughts would be much appreciated.  If it has helped?  what has worked best?
Quite conflicted over this one.
thank you!

My son takes a short acting booster after school on the two days/week that he has an activity. I works great to help him get through the activity 5-6:30 but it seems to impact his sleep and keeps him awake those nights so I’m struggling with whether or not it’s worth continuing 😔

***I highly encourage you to post this question to ADDitude’s new discussion forums, as well. I think your question would get a lot of attention in the Treating Your Child forum: ADDconnect is transitioning over to this new forum now.***

It is quite common for kids with ADHD (and adults, for that matter) to take a short-acting stimulant in the afternoon to get medication coverage for activities later in the day.

My son takes a short acting booster in the afternoon and it is a life-saver for those afternoon activities and getting through the evening routine. We give our son time-release melatonin to help with sleep (as directed by our developmental pediatrician). We gave regular melatonin first and it helped him fall asleep but then he would be up for 2-3 hours in the middle of the night. The time-release melatonin (3mg, ordered on made all the difference. Hope this helps.
